Weedy Sea Dragon

I spotted this individual while diving underneath Rye pier on the Mornington Peninsula. Notice the tiny pink eggs on his tail! This means he is a father. These are very gentle, paternal creatures, and males fertilise and carry eggs for 6-8 weeks before hatching.

In Eastern cultures, seadragons are powerful creatures of legend. They are often a symbol of good luck and prosperity, and are said to bring strength and courage to those who find them. Seadragons remind us that life is governed by currents, and sometimes it's okay to slow down and go with the flow.
